Customer reviews

How customer reviews and ratings work

We use the Average with Prior (also known as Bayesian Average) to calculate the total rating for each fleet operator/charter company.

Since new companies could have very few reviews, each review can significantly impact the average score, potentially leading to misleading representations of the total score (e.g., one very positive or very negative review skewing the overall rating). To mitigate this, we use a "prior" or "default" score.

This means that each company rating, by default, starts 4, which is calculated from 3 hypothetical reviews, each rated 4. This assumption provides a baseline level of performance that is neutral-to-positive.

For example, if a new company receives a 5-star review, the total rating will be adjusted to 4.25. Here's how it is calculated: (4 × 3) + 5 = 17 and then divided by the total number of reviews 4 (3 default + 1 actual review), resulting in 4.25

As more reviews come in, the weight of the actual reviews increases, and the influence of the prior diminishes.

“Glad 2 B Here” – Moorings 52.4
“A very disappointing charter from The Moorings”
The Moorings 52.4 monohull Charter Boat: “Glad 2 B Here” – Moorings 52.4 Exclusive (1 or 2 years old) Charter Fee (not including additional fees and charges): $13,999.00 Charter Dates: 8 April to 15 April 2025 This is what we paid for: A quote from The Moorings website - “The Moorings is proud to welcome the newest addition to their world-class fleet – The Moorings 52.4. Designed by the renowned French boat manufacturers at Beneteau, this elegant cruiser sets the pace for liveability on board and high-end performance. With 4 double en-suite cabins sleeping up to 8 guests comfortably, and a convertible saloon that offers sleeping arrangements for up to two additional guests, this spacious yacht allows for maximum comfort on the water, making it the perfect offshore cruiser for families and large parties. Equipped with the latest in yacht technology and upgrades, including a watermaker, inverter, solar panels, underwater lights, electric transom, electric winch, bow thruster, gas grill, and generator-powered air conditioning, the 52.4 offers the ultimate in onboard comfort, ensuring a stress-free charter vacation for all.” Existing Issues with the boat when the charter began: 1. No bow thruster as advertised 2. No gas grill as advertised 3. Water maker was not operational 4. Later learned that the inverter was not operational 5. Large hole in starboard side window frame 6. Large chip in anchor locker hatch 7. Spreader lights (deck illumination) inoperable 8. Cockpit lighting inoperable 9. Two of the four toilet seats were broken and fell completely off 10. Forward, port cabin hatch would not stay open 11. Several cabin leaks 12. Fuel tank gauges were not operational 13. Water tank gauge was not operational Issues with the boat discovered after we were underway: 1. House batteries failed to hold charge and had to be replaced by the service people at our mooring location. Spent several hours of our “vacation” troubleshooting this issue and waiting for service. It is difficult to believe that the house battery would fail on a boat less than two years old. 2. Once batteries were replaced it was discovered that the master inverter was inoperable. So, no 120VAC outlets were functional. We could not operate the coffee pot, toaster, microwave or WiFi unless generator was running. Service dept. had no replacement for the inverter, so we were told to run the generator. We expressed concern for our fuel levels, since we would have to run the generator excessively. Service instructed us to top off the fuel tanks (since we had no fuel gauges) and submit the bill to Moorings for reimbursement. 3. Jib sheets were rigged for a self-tacking jib. When the jib was unfurled, it was much too large. The sail could not be set properly even if it was only partially unfurled. This ruined our sailing experience for the entire charter. 4. Main sail would not drop. Too much friction in the track. 5. The main sail battens would catch in the lazy jacks every time we raised the sail. Had to use boat hooks on both sides to clear it. 6. The engine RPM (tachometer) was not readable on the liquid crystal display. 7. The saloon dining table brackets were loose, making it unstable and impossible to use for sleeping. 8. The forward, port toilet was not operational. We troubleshot and found a circuit breaker so loose that it couldn’t make electrical contact. After troubleshooting, we corrected this by wedging part of a clothespin to hold it in place. 9. VHF radio was not operational (I had to use the handheld that I brought) 10. The transmission clutch slipped excessively, making it slow to change from forward to reverse. 11. The cooling water inlet screen for the generator was not sufficient to stop sargasso and other floating debris from plugging the thru-hull fitting and hose. It never got as far as the filter. The loss of the generator caused the crew to go without air conditioning for three very uncomfortable nights (also no wind scoops). We were offered a one-day credit toward a future charter.

“We were very happy”
We were very happy with all aspects of the Moorings cruise to the Exumas and back. The boat was in great condition, no significant issues and the staff was outstanding in their preparation and service of the boat and trip. I believe Garreth to be a great addition to the Nassau base and you will find customers much satisfied in the future. It is a large operation and there are bound to be issues, but the key element is that the staff is working hard to be attendant to customer satisfaction.

“Fabulous experience”
Fabulous experience with the Moorings in Belize. Staff was very accommodating and very helpful. Minor issues with boat but moorings handled it quickly without disrupting our adventure. 12 knots has been awesome to work with. They appear to be able to get the same boat for less than dealing with the moorings directly.

“Great location. Disappointing boat.”
Grenada is always a beautiful location. It was unfortunate that the boat wasnt ready when we arrived and we lost a day of our charter waiting for them to fix the boat.
