Customer reviews

How customer reviews and ratings work

We use the Average with Prior (also known as Bayesian Average) to calculate the total rating for each fleet operator/charter company.

Since new companies could have very few reviews, each review can significantly impact the average score, potentially leading to misleading representations of the total score (e.g., one very positive or very negative review skewing the overall rating). To mitigate this, we use a "prior" or "default" score.

This means that each company rating, by default, starts 4, which is calculated from 3 hypothetical reviews, each rated 4. This assumption provides a baseline level of performance that is neutral-to-positive.

For example, if a new company receives a 5-star review, the total rating will be adjusted to 4.25. Here's how it is calculated: (4 × 3) + 5 = 17 and then divided by the total number of reviews 4 (3 default + 1 actual review), resulting in 4.25

As more reviews come in, the weight of the actual reviews increases, and the influence of the prior diminishes.

BALI 4.8
“YACHTING IN SARDINIA THE WORST VACATION OF MY LIFE”
I chartered a Bali 4.8 for a team building with some entrepreneurs and tried to do everything I could to make my guests find a welcoming environment but this charter company thwarted all efforts. Not a single thing went right this week. Catamaran sold for 2024 (it was 2023) was in terrible shape both inside and out, not to mention the initial cleaning that they charged handsomely for but hardly did and I had to call back the cleaning company who arrived late and we were stuck on the dock in the sun before we could settle into the boat. The outside, on the other hand, remained dirty because we were told that another company was doing them and we would have to wait until the next day, and because of that I was forced to sign a paper declaring the boat externally clean (instead we had or did so in order to get out of the harbor). We also had constant breakdowns and inconveniences (toilets, sink, watermaker, gps, etc...) throughout our vacation. They even gave us a fine because we returned an hour late on the last day however, they did not give me any refund for making us leave several hours late because of a broken door in a room (which we could not use for one night) as well as the gangway to get on that split before we boarded and was replaced with a wooden plank... I should write for hours to detail the many problems and inconveniences I had with this charter company such as the total lack of assistance (on Sundays at the end of July the offices are closed so if you are sinking you have to call back on Monday..sic!) or I should make you read the absurd and rude emails I received from an arrogant person from the agency who despite the many damages and many inconveniences we had, instead of apologizing started sending delusional emails for facts that never happened so as to create alibis for their mismanagement. I thought I had been unlucky with the boat but unfortunately that was not the case because both on departure and arrival all the boats near ours (Swiss, Italians and British) complained about disservice and rudeness on the part of Yachting in Sardinia..... stay away if you don't want to ruin your vacation.

“12knots was very professional - Sailing Sardinia to avoid”
12knots was very professional throughout the entire relationship; on the other hand, Sailing Sardinia is a boat hire company to be avoided.

“Star far from this Company (Yachting in Sardinia)”
state alla larga da quest'agenzia di noleggio. Star far from this Company ! on our rented Dufour 56: auto pilot out of order from the Start / bow thruster out of order from the start / dingy engine 1 out of order / we go back to the base to take another One: out of order after one use / 18 Boats rented the same saturday with not enough technicians to prepare or repair them, several boats can’t leave and wait for ghost technicians. (Most only speak italien). We are very far from Sunsail/Mooring quality and service…. Our worst boat hiring experience (i Sail for >30 years). What do they need to change? Boat maintenance, review the concept of service and the mindset, base organisation, staff training, etc.

“Vacation ruined”
Boat delivered dirty, no maintenance (clogged toilets, outlets not working, cold showers, empty first aid kit). Extras paid for and never delivered or defective (wifi, gas, mats). The tender was a disaster: not ready at check-in, then punctured, engine badly secured, and finally broken line with serious safety hazards. The owner's handling was the worst part: zero support, arrogant responses, and even requests to sign papers to waive our grievance rights in exchange for small "favors." Their modus operandi is just that: maintenance-free boats to inexperienced clients, veiled threats on the deposit, and intimidating forms to sign in order to silence them, albeit the many complaints they already have pending. Too bad, because Sardinia is beautiful, but with this company we will never return. To be avoided like the plague.

“Stay away from this rental agency”
This year I rented a sailing boat in Sardinia with the Yachting agency in Sardinia. At the time of going out in tender we realize that the engine does not work. We then call the rental agency that immediately accuses us of being responsible for the failure and applies a penalty of 90 euros. Needless to say, at the time of boarding and inspection of the sailing boat the tender was not tried. Result: triple punishment. We paid 240 euros for the tender option, when we need the boat is not working and moreover we are billed a penalty. I refused to pay the 330 euros so impunity in turnover but the agency deducted them from the deposit. Notice to connoisseurs: State away from this rental agency.
Response from the owner
“ Only if you are masochists or if you like to have your money taken, charter a boat with YACTING IN SARDINIA.”
Sailing with YACTING IN SARDINIA is an organised system for taking money from customers via their credit cards. Given the small amount of money they take and, above all, the fact that the clients are foreigners, they are confident that they will not be sued in court. The lease contract, a purely adhesion contract, is blatantly abusive; the client has all the obligations and the company has very few and not at all onerous ones. The contract defines a number of points and states that it is forbidden to sail within 0.2 or 0.5 miles. These are not dangerous or prohibited areas for navigation according to Italian law. They are traps to keep part of the deposit: every time one of these zones is touched, 200 euros. In some of these areas, such as the entrance channel to the port of Ottiolu, or in the Gulf of Marinella, it is impossible or very difficult to avoid such areas. The person in charge of the Portisco base (a certain Analissa) will tell you to leave your leftover food on board in a plastic container; DON'T DO IT, days after leaving the boat you will be ‘robbed’ of 100 eUros as a fine for leaving rubbish. Leaving aside the abusive extras, there is a lack of facilities to attend to customers waiting to board (suitcases piled up, a tent where only 8 people can sit, not even a glass of water is offered, etc.), the staff does not have sufficient nautical knowledge, the Portisco base manager (Analissa) is arrogant, extremely rude, does not respond to customers' doubts or questions (her most frequent answer: I am very busy, send an email or a wasp to “technical assistance”). The maintenance of the boats is manifestly improvable: I had to fix the shower pumps, as the membranes had not been changed (it has to be done every year), the JET THUSTER that was supposed to be on board had been dismantled due to a breakdown (the person who did the check in was not aware of this fact and many other technical things), the deck and bimini had traces of mud, lack of nautical charts (the boat only had a portulano from 2011), etc. The staff at the base do not personally resolve problems, doubts or complaints and refer you to a phone call to a switchboard or WhatsApp to give you a solution; in other words: there is no one at Portisco who shows their face and has the capacity to make decisions.
