Spain yacht charter

Separated from the rest of Europe by the Pyrenees, Spain reaches south to the coast of North Africa and Mediterranean coastlines, and includes two archipelagos – the Balearics and the Canary Islands. Spain yacht charter will help you to discover an endlessly fascinating country: flamenco dancing, bullfighting, tapas bars and various colorful fiestas - are only some of many images of Spain.

We had a great time in Greece, the first three days we had constant 20-25knots of wind, so we were able to do a lot of sailing. The boat was also in good condition and everything in working order…the boat did however look a bit older than a 2018 mode…

“We tried to make the most of it, but it was far from ideal”

Hey Grigory, thanks for asking. The boat was not in good condition. For example, there were no mooring, deck or motoring lights, so we feared a boat would hit us while we slept, and were not complying with the law while sailing at night. The anchor w…

“с погодой не очень повезло”

Все было отлично, с погодой не очень повезло, самые холодные майские праздники на моей памяти. По яхте все ок, понятно что она не новая, но претензий нет, все работало

Spain Yacht Charters

Spain Yacht Charters

Spain has so much to offer sailors, from beautiful coastlines and culture, to completely novel experiences for a Mediterranean yacht charter. Whether you want to enjoy the cuisine, explore the Balearics and the Canary Islands, or dance the night away, Spain has something for everyone. 12 Knots Yachting Club offers a variety of sailing vacations for beginners and experienced sailors alike. A luxury yacht, catamaran, or bareboat sailing yacht can be all yours for the week as you cruise from city to city. 12 Knots will make your Mediterranean vacation one to remember.

What to Know Before Chartering a Yacht in Spain

Spain is a beautiful country with so much to offer sailors. With a rich cultural and historical background, you are likely to learn so many new things and make new memories you’ve never even dreamed of. But, before visiting any country it’s best to learn about the culture and customs so you can have a more seamless trip and even make new friends along the way. Here are a few things to expect when sailing in Spain for the first time:

Late Start

The Spanish start and end the day much later than most Americans and Europeans. The Spanish typically eat lunch around 2pm, and dinner after 9pm. It is best to account for this so you’re not waiting around famished after a long day of trekking. The Spanish often take siestas after lunch, and shops will close for a few hours (usually between 2-5pm). Plan to do your shopping in the morning, and experience nightlife as the afternoons are typically very slow.

Learn to speak the language

Learning a little Spanish will be greatly appreciated, as it shows respect for the culture and its people. While many Spanish natives are bilingual, especially base managers and port authorities in yacht charter bases, its best to know basic phrases like “Hablas Ingles?” (Do you speak English?), or “Dónde está el baño?” (Where is the restroom?) Castilian Spanish is considered the proper Spanish language, however there are several dialects within the country, each with their own phrases and customs. Research the dialect of Spanish spoken in the area you’re sailing so you’ll be more prepared with local phrases and words.

Bring cash

Bring cash

Sailing overseas poses many challenges, including currency exchange. While carrying cash may seem tedious when you can use cards, many of the local shops and restaurants in Spain will only accept cash. Banks in Spain close early in the day, usually around 2pm when other shops and restaurants take siesta. During your yacht charter in Spain we recommend you use the ATM or go to the bank early. Make sure you have enough cash for a few meals and souvenirs if you're planning to see the local attractions rather than just the tourist chains.

Siestas and Summer Vacations

When planning your sailing vacation to Spain, you should consider the weather and cultural norms in order to receive the best experience. In the summer the land is very warm, and in August many Spaniards take extended vacations because of the heat. If you visit in August you may have limited shopping and eating options, as the local stores will likely be closed for a portion of the month. During your day to day plans, remember that in the afternoons many Spanish stores and shopkeepers take a siesta to rest or enjoy extended lunch. This is the perfect time to enjoy the beaches, or take a short sail to another beach or city.

Reserving a bareboat charter in Spain is one of the best ways to spend a Mediterranean sailing vacation.
