Customer reviews

How customer reviews and ratings work

We use the Average with Prior (also known as Bayesian Average) to calculate the total rating for each fleet operator/charter company.

Since new companies could have very few reviews, each review can significantly impact the average score, potentially leading to misleading representations of the total score (e.g., one very positive or very negative review skewing the overall rating). To mitigate this, we use a "prior" or "default" score.

This means that each company rating, by default, starts 4, which is calculated from 3 hypothetical reviews, each rated 4. This assumption provides a baseline level of performance that is neutral-to-positive.

For example, if a new company receives a 5-star review, the total rating will be adjusted to 4.25. Here's how it is calculated: (4 × 3) + 5 = 17 and then divided by the total number of reviews 4 (3 default + 1 actual review), resulting in 4.25

As more reviews come in, the weight of the actual reviews increases, and the influence of the prior diminishes.

“Dingy motor sad”
Dingy motor was not working. Refrigerator handle was broken making it only able to be opened with a knife. During check in unable to locate life jackets. No coffee pot or toaster on board. Otherwise boat functioned well and they were very accommodating. I would recommend quoting and invoicing in same currency.

“COMPLAINT AGAINST SAILING EUROPE AND THE GULET SUMMER PRINCESS”
🚨 ATTENTION TRAVELERS – PUBLIC COMPLAINT AGAINST SAILING EUROPE AND THE GULET SUMMER PRINCESS (CROATIA) 🚨 We want to share our experience to warn other travelers from going through what we endured when booking with Sailing Europe and sailing on the Gulet Summer Princess, owned by captain Davor. This is what we experienced: Hostile and unprofessional captain From the second day he threatened to leave us at a port with all our luggage. Made discriminatory remarks about our nationality. Walked around in inappropriate clothing (only a speedo), clipped his toenails in the kitchen, and threw cigarette butts into the sea. Food and drinks: total failure Before the trip we submitted a PDF with dietary requirements (including kosher). These were never respected. The “menu” was reduced to eggs and hummus for breakfast; there was no fish or the proteins we requested. We had to buy our own food and drinks, which the captain then stole or tampered with. He refilled bottled water with unfiltered tap water, which caused several of us to get sick. Unacceptable crew and child exploitation The crew consisted of the captain, a friend of his, and his 13-year-old daughter. The minor was made to unclog toilets, cook (using TikTok tutorials), and perform heavy tasks. This is not only unprofessional – it is child labor and exploitation. Filth and lack of hygiene From day one, the boat was dirty, with a strong sewage smell in the cabins. Towels were old, torn, and stained. Sheets were never changed, and no basic cleaning was provided. False advertising and misleading description What was promised in the contract and on the website (kayak, seabob, donut, bike, bathroom amenities, etc.) never existed. The gulet was old, neglected, and nothing like the photos advertised by Sailing Europe. Lack of safety and abuse of power He invited strangers onboard without our consent, while threatening to throw out our invited guests. Slept in the main communal area, making it inaccessible to us. On several occasions, he prevented us from swimming by docking the boat from 3–4 p.m. onward. Route and logistics ignored We requested to visit the Blue Caves well in advance, and he simply said they were “too far.” On the last day, instead of docking near the airport as requested, he took us to an industrial dock to refuel, ignoring our instructions and adding stress and unnecessary transport costs. 🔴 Conclusion: What was supposed to be a dream vacation turned into a nightmare. Sailing Europe has washed their hands of responsibility, saying they “only publish what the charter provides,” while refusing to take any accountability. Despite our formal complaints and the dozens of pieces of evidence we submitted (photos, messages, receipts), they continue to deny us any compensation. 👉 We publicly warn anyone considering booking with Sailing Europe: do not do it. And especially avoid the Gulet Summer Princess and captain Davor, whose behavior was disrespectful, unsanitary, and even dangerous.
