Bulgaria“Recent Charter”
Recent Charter with Gais, Sicily: we had numerous problems with the boat. We listed 14 to the company. All of which were dismissed by the company as 'trivial' even though some were safety critical. The electronic issues were met with the response, "try turning it off and on again". Very poor service: they told us it was all our fault. Will never use Gais again. Zero stars if possible The boat was called NOTUS. It was a Dufour 38.1 and the charter ws from Palermo, Sicily 24th Sept to 1st October 2022. Problems included: Auto-pilot suddenly disengaging causing the boat to rapidly turn through 36deg, Fot stool became unrestrained causing wild movements in rough seas, Anchor undersized causing drag and - almost - loss of boat, Anchor warps barely usable due to fraying, Lazy jacks unusable to to incorrect rigging, plus many other inconveniences.

Do I need sailing or boating license for the bareboat charter?
In most of the regions, like the Caribbean, South-East Asia, Oceania, no special sailing documents are needed for the bareboat charter. The only thing you need to provide is your sailing resume, so that the base manager can see if you are qualified enough to rent Dufour 390 Grand Large Sailing yacht in Italy / Sicily. Once you get the approval, you are good to go.
On the other hand for bareboat charter in Europe and some other countries you have to provide internationally recognized sailing certificates like: IYT Bareboat Skipper, RYA Day Skipper, ASA 104 plus IPC. Ask booking manager for the requirements. Detailed information here: BBC things to know
